About Chris
I’m Christine Voth, a reading tutor, lifelong educator, and proud grandmother with over 20 years of experience supporting children who learn differently.
I specialize in working with elementary students facing reading challenges, especially those with dyslexia, ADHD, or learning differences. Using the Barton Reading & Spelling System, I help kids gain confidence, build mastery, and connect with the joy of learning, often for the very first time.
My background includes two decades as an Educational Assistant in Manitoba classrooms, plus years spent teaching music, drama, and English. I hold a B.A. in English Studies, a TESL certificate, and certifications as both a Practical Herbalist and Flower Essence Practitioner. I believe learning is holistic, healing, and always ongoing.
I bring patience, empathy, and creativity into every session. Whether we’re playing word games, tapping into movement, or celebrating a small win, I meet each child exactly where they are and help them grow from there.

I chose the Barton method for two reasons.
First, it's often used in Manitoba classrooms, so I can directly support and reinforce what students are learning at school.
Second, it’s simply one of the most effective and empowering approaches I’ve seen.
The Barton system builds confidence while teaching reading and spelling through a structured, mastery-based model. -
Barton’s greatest strengths are its methodical, multi-sensory design and its respect for each student’s unique learning style.
Every lesson builds carefully on the last, ensuring students fully master each concept before moving on.
This clear, consistent structure helps remove the guesswork and gives students a sense of stability.
Best of all, it invites learners to explore and understand how English really works—hands-on and at their own pace. -
The Barton method was originally developed for students with dyslexia, but it's beneficial for any learner who struggles with reading or spelling, regardless of age.
It’s especially helpful for students who need 1:1 instruction and benefit from brain-based, structured literacy methods like Orton-Gillingham. -
Before we begin tutoring, every student receives a free student screening. This short assessment helps us determine if the Barton program is a good fit based on how your child processes language. We also look for other potential learning roadblocks, such as vision or hearing issues, that might need attention before tutoring begins.
This first meeting is also a chance to build rapport and ensure your child feels comfortable and supported. A strong connection and clear communication are key to success.
